Somatic Experience Poetry Walk

NEW! Norwood Keaton, one of the Philadelphia Fellows, will facilitate a Choose Your Own Adventure option on Tuesday. This adventure will begin outside Waysmeet.

This activity is designed to slow down our experience, notice what is happening, and to channel creative expression. The activity will begin with a body scan exercise to bring attention/intention into the body to stay, explore, notice and reflect on our present experience. Then once everyone has received a pen and notebooks/paper, the group will walk the trail to Bamboo grove in silence. As a group, we will engage with our senses to explore whatever feelings come up in the present moment. The group will reflect observations of all kinds down on their sheet of paper. We will rest in Bamboo grove for a period and be given the space to share.

Presence, perception and sensations are critical tools to understanding the non-verbal realm of your somatic experiences. How we perceive often determines what we believe and what actions we take. Getting to know the “how” of perception is important to truly grasping deep emotional beliefs and patterns. The more you can open-up and be curious about how your perception works, the more you become present to your direct experience of your body without a filter of inner dialogue or past stories. The self-judgment begins to fade away and you are left with sensing what truly is. There is a truth that emerges when you become present with your body, your sensate experience, and it opens you then to a wider sense of perceiving yourself and the world around you.

“Embodied self-awareness is the ability to pay attention to ourselves, to feel our sensations, emotions, and movements online, in the present moment, without the mediating influence of judgmental thoughts.” - Allen Fogel
